Highways improvements works

We are currently delivering a programme of highways improvements at the Junction 11 roundabout near Warrington Services. These works are essential to improve traffic flow, increase capacity, and ensure the junction continues to operate safely and efficiently as demand grows.

The project forms part of wider investment in the local road network.

What’s happening?

The scheme includes a range of improvements to the roundabout and surrounding road infrastructure, including pedestrianising the junction. Due to the scale and location of the works, some disruption is unavoidable.

Where possible, works are scheduled overnight to:

  • Maintain daytime access through the junction
  • Reduce congestion on the wider road network
  • Allow safe working conditions during road closures

Piling works

Following feedback from local residents regarding noise from overnight piling, these activities were temporarily paused while we reviewed the programme.

Piling will now resume from Monday 18th May and will take place:

  • Daytime only: 9:00am – 5:00pm

This change has been made specifically to reduce disturbance for nearby residents. Works are expected to complete by Friday 22nd May.

As the project progresses, most remaining activities will continue during overnight hours. This is necessary due to road

Upcoming road resurfacing (July 2026)

A key phase of planing and resurfacing is currently scheduled for July and will last approximately 10 days.

During this phase:

  • Overnight road closures will be in place
  • Works will be delivered in phases
  • Clearly signed diversion routes will operate

While these works are not expected to be as noisy as piling, there may still be some increased noise during this period.

For information on the diversions can be found below:
